They then found a place that was just offshore near a little fishing area called Puerto Juarez. The original name of the deserted area was “Snakes Nest”, but in Maya it means Cancun and that is where the name of this famous city comes from.
Thirty years later Cancun, once a forgotten village, has now grown into one of the world's biggest and most visited vacation resorts.
